Newsweek

The July 916, 2007 edition of Newsweek, published column by Lisa Miller about the nonreligious parenting book, Parenting Beyond Belief in its "Belief Watch" section.

The column was accompanied by a photograph of of IHS Executive Director Matt Chery, his wife, Shannon, and their 18-month old twin daughters, Lyra and Sophia.

Humanist Parents in NewsweekMatt and Shannon contributed a chapter to the book.

In a rather begrudgingly positive review, Miller concluded that "Parents on both sides of the culture war will find this book a compelling read."

Miller also noted "The most compelling chapter is 'Death and Consolation': talking to kids about death when heaven isn't an option." That chapter features an essay by Noell Hyman titled "The End as We Know it." Hyman is the author of "Agnostic Mom," a parenting column that appeared in the Humanist Network News, the weekly e-zine of the Institute for Humanist Studies.

You can read archives of "Agnostic Mom" in the Parenting pages of the Institute for Humanist Studies website by clicking here.

Newsweek claims a total international readership of more than 21 million.
