Humanist think tank appoints Director of Administration

ALBANY- The Institute for Humanist Studies (IHS) is pleased to announce the addition of Judith M. Disco as director of administration. IHS is an Albany-based, nonprofit educational organization dedicated to promoting nonreligious perspectives on social and ethical issues.

Disco will play a key role in managing the Institute's daily and long-term operations. Her key responsibilities will include oversight of the Institute's finance department. Disco will manage the IHS Grant Fund program, which annually awards approximately $150,000 in grants to humanist organizations throughout the world. Disco will additionally serve as a building supervisor once IHS relocates this winter.

"The Institute for Humanist Studies is delighted to add such a talented and committed manager to its team," said IHS Executive Director Matt Cherry. "Judy's administrative background makes her instrumental to the growth and development of our campaign to raise awareness of the rights, values and beliefs of nonreligious Americans. We are eager to tap into her lifetime of professional and volunteer experience working in the nonprofit world."

Before joining the Institute, Disco was the director of administration for the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault, a statewide nonprofit agency based in Albany, N.Y. She was the executive director of Woman's Services of Western Massachusetts in Pittsfield, Mass. and the project director of the New York State Youth Council in Albany, N.Y.

Disco currently serves as a board member of the Capital District Gay and Lesbian Council. She lives with her partner in Delmar, N.Y.

Disco received her bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University at Albany in 1985. She has taken graduate courses at Empire College and management courses through Cornell University.
