IHS Grant Fund
"It is remarkable how much can be accomplished if you don't care who gets the credit." - Harry S. Truman
The IHS Grant Fund is no longer accepting proposals for funding this year. Please check back in the spring for information about next year.
Launched in fall of 2000, the Institute for Humanist Studies Grant Fund provides grants averaging $130,000 a year to humanist projects in the U.S. and around the world. The IHS Grant Fund has awarded more than $900,000 since its founding.
Introducing the IHS Grant Fund, Larry Jones, president of the Institute for Humanist Studies, said, "The principle embodied in the Truman quote inspired us at IHS to create a fund that would amplify our goals by supporting the best work of other humanist organizations and individuals that is consistent with our mission.
"We believe that this kind of cooperation and mutual support among humanist groups will both strengthen the groups themselves and increase the influence of humanism in society at large."
The IHS Grant Fund is administered by Judy Disco, Director of Administration. The grants are decided by a committee of leading humanist philanthropists.

Bob Heideman chaired his first meeting of the IHS Grant Fund Committee in October 2006 at the Humanist Center in Albany N.Y. The committee elected two new members, Bobbie Kirkhart, former president of Atheist Alliance International, and Molleen Matsumura, author of the popular humanist advice column "Sweet Reason."
After serving on the committee since its creation in 2000, Larry Jones, president of the Institute for Humanist Studies, and Barbara Eisenstadt stepped back to join the non-voting advisory committee.
